The Cubs’ postseason ended much sooner than fans hoped. San Diego swept Chicago in the National League Wild Card Series, finishing with a 4–1 win in Game 2. After spending the season looking forward to October baseball, seeing it end so quickly was disappointing.
As a Chicago sports fan, the hardest part is knowing how quickly a playoff opportunity can disappear. Making the postseason is exciting, but nobody wants the celebration of getting there to become the highlight of the entire run. I wanted to see the Cubs give us a reason to keep watching deep into October.
Now the attention turns to next season. My hope is that the Cubs use this disappointment as motivation and make the improvements needed to come back stronger. Until then, we’re left with another frustrating ending—and another reason to say, “There’s always next year.”
